Meet coach, nutritionist, and registered dietician David
I am originally from the Washington, D.C. area and received my B.S. in
Kinesiology from the University of Maryland. I have always been interested in biological and health sciences, which I think stems from childhood experiences with my father. My father suffered his first stroke shortly after I was born and by the time I was seven he was confined to a wheelchair. His lack of mobility originally sparked my interest in kinesiology, but as I worked in the healthcare field my interests shifted towards nutrition and dietetics. Shortly after, I started a career at a weight loss company to nurture my new interest.
Throughout my career I have collaborated with registered dietitians to develop meal plans and exercise prescriptions for our clients. My proudest moment was working with a client who achieved an astounding 300-pound weight loss, and in that moment I realized the power of nutrition and exercise to change lives. It is possible to improve health when lifestyle choices, not disease, are causing limited mobility and low quality of life. Understanding how important health promotion is for the prevention of disease sent
me down the path to becoming a registered dietitian. In June 2019 I graduated with a Master’s in Human Nutrition from Drexel University and began my training as a dietitian with the University of Maryland. During my training, I had the opportunity to practice medical nutrition therapy at various outpatient bariatric, hemodialysis, and diabetes
clinics.
I enjoy spending my free time outdoors enjoying the fresh air and sun. Most summer weekends you will find me cycling, hiking, or kayaking down a local river. I have recently gotten into winter sports and am excited to break in my new snowboarding gear this upcoming season! I also love to travel, and since 2012 I have been to over 45 countries on 6 continents. Throughout my travels, I have had the opportunity to observe global food and nutrition practices, which is important for being a culturally competent and effective dietitian. These experiences have also helped me understand the social and cultural determinants of health, enabling me to become an advocate for change.
